Most homes in Ojaveda are broad tents known as ultics. An ultic is made of pieces of animal hide, sewn with great care, painted with memorial drawings and oiled to resist bad weather and rain. An ultic varies in diameter but can be as large as 20 meters across. It is supported by a clever structure of inclined wooden poles, which are tied with external ropes to maximize the usable space inside. The floor is usually covered with rugs and many pillows. Some sections of the ultic's walls can be opened or rolled up to let in light and fresh air. Rooms are separated by thin folding screens made of paper or cloth. Often the rooms are ornate with treasures, weapons or hunting trophies.
