Wild Animals
Wild Animals
Rarely are wild animals found in large cities except for rats which come and infest the sewers and cellars. These animals are often the best for people seeking to train since they range from simple creatures such as rats to extremely powerful monsters such as ulbernauts. Because of this, some creatures have been brought to the Hydlaa Arena so that various people can fight them without having to look for them.

Vesper Arangma
Barn Bouncetails are insects. Although not rare, they are not very common either. Barn Bouncetails originally come from The Barn, the second level. Just like many other insects, they eat plants, however they seem to like some kind of rare flowers, making them very much disliked in the gardener's community. Luckily for gardeners, Barn Bouncetails flee at the odour of consumer pheromones, since consumers are one of their natural enemy.
This subspecies of arangma can be found in the darkest, deepest shadows.

Biorlitrosan
Carkarass are the only type of flying creatures along with pterosaurs and megarases. They are seldom seen in the world of the living, but many people coming back from the Death Realm comment to have seen these flying around. Not much is known of them, all scientists know is that they live in the death realm and that they fly.
A semi-intelligent, quadrupedal mammal. It uses limited native speech. It is herbivorous, and thusly eats grass and grains. It can manipulate tools using tusks and a thick, forked, prehensile tongue.

Clacker
;Appearance: They Fire Carkarasses are identical to other Carkarasses however, they can be distinguished by their fiery colour
Clackers are very closely related to crabs, having a hard exoskeleton, which gives them protection and makes them very robust. Their two front limbs are tipped with razor-sharp blades, which can be used to inflict serious damage on anyone who comes within range, but they are generally harmless if you keep your distance. They are named for the sound they produce with their legs. Clacker legs have been at times fashioned into crude tools, and their meat is considered edible, though an 'acquired taste'. They are one of the few omnivorous insects.

Derghir
Derghir
Derghirs are small creatures with a relatively high intelligence. They are able to construct buildings from what looks like stone and crystal, and they also appear to have a social order of some kind. Like the Kran, they are based out of silicon as opposed to carbon. Also like the Kran, their diet consists of sand and crystals. The Derghir also have their own complex language. Some people claim to have learned this language, stating that they can communicate with the Derghir. Other people say that the Derghir are a ravaging threat to the civilizations of Yliakum.

Rat
<br style="clear:both;"/>
The most common vile creature in Yliakum, rats have become a pest in the large towns. They proliferate where food is freely available, and always seem able to find some way to get it. They will eat the rotting corpses in sewers as well as the fresh meat in someone's cupboard. Wrathrats are very much like common rats in shape, however, their appearance is dramatically different. Only half of the head has flesh, the rest is skeleton; their bodies are skinned, bare muscles are open to the air and held together in places with coarse stitchings. It is unsure whether they feed or not since they do not seem to be alive in the natural sense. Some speculate that a sorcerer cast a spell upon some rats, dooming them never to rest in peace.

They will attack people if they get too close, however they are so inoffensive that kids often tease them just for fun.

Wrathrats are very much like rats in shape, however, their appearance is dramatically different. Only half of the head has flesh, the other is just skeleton, their bodies skinned, bare muscles open to the air and held together in places with coarse stitchings. Many people consider the tloke a 'lucky animal' and will not kill it, despite the use of its parts in alchemy.

There are many creatures throughout Yliakum, in here you will find information on both ferocious (and not so ferocious) creatures as well as rogues and other vile characters.

Arangma

Forest Arangma

The easiest to find, this arangma subspecies is also the easiest to defeat.

Appearance: Green, very green, to blend in with its suroundings.
Strength: Due to their brittle forms, Forest Arangmas are fairly easy to defeat.
Natural Habitat: Wooded Areas and Forests.

Frost Arangma

Appearance: The carapace is purple with large green spots, the legs are blue.
Strength: Due to their brittle forms, Frost Arangmas are fairly easy to defeat. Mages beware, however. Due to it's predilection for the cold, attempting to freeze this creature to death is unlikely to work.
Natural Habitat: Cold and Dark places.

Weaver Arangma

Spending most of its time skulking around, a weaver arangma may often crawl away rather than seeking a fight with a potential aggressor.

Appearance: Purple body, with turquoise-blue legs and a vivid yellow and red marking on the carapace.
Strength: Due to their brittle exo-skeletal structure, weaver arangmas are fairly easy to defeat. However their shell is tougher than a forest arangma's.
Natural Habitat: Grimy areas such as the Hydlaa Sewer.

Vesper Arangma

This subspecies of arangma can be found in the darkest, deepest shadows.

Appearance: Almost completely purple, save for some green and blue spots on the carapace.
Strength: Due to their brittle exo-skeletal structure, vesper arangmas are fairly easy to defeat. However, it should be noted that it possess some magical resistance.
Natural Habitat: Deep shadows such as those found at the bottom of the Hydlaa sewer.

Sand Arangma

This subspecies of arangma can be found in sandy places, such as deserts.

Appearance: Almost completely black, with some yellow details on their abdomen.
Strength: Sand Arangmas have a strong exo-esqueletal armor, while they tend to be a bit resistant to spells. The explorer must be wary about those bugs, as Sand Arangmas are one of the stronger arangmas in Yliakum.
Natural Habitat: Sand dunes like the ones outside Eagle Bronze Doors.

Biorlitrosan

A semi-intelligent, quadrupedal mammal. It uses limited native speech. It is herbivorous, and thusly eats grass and grains. It can manipulate tools using tusks and a thick, forked, prehensile tongue.

Warning This creature is not yet implemented.
Appearance: All grey, and about 1.5m high at the shoulder.
Strength: Unknown.
Natural Habitat: Biorlitrosans live in burrows or simple huts on all six levels, but forage in grasslands.

Barn Bouncetail

Barn Bouncetails are insects, so named because it jumps on its hind legs while using its tail for control. Although not rare, they are not very common either. Barn Bouncetails originally come from the Barn, the second level, and just like many other insects, they eat plants. However, they seem to like certain kinds of rare flowers in particular, which makes them very much disliked in the gardeners' community. Luckily for gardeners, Barn Bouncetails flee from the odour of consumer pheromones (consumers being one of their natural enemies).

Warning This creature is not yet implemented.
Appearance: A green insect-like creature that is half a centimeter in length.
Strength: Fairly stupid and not a serious threat to the experienced.
Natural Habitat: They are often found around plants and flowers.

Carkarass

Carkarasses are one of the only type of flying creatures, along with Pterosaur and Megarases. They are seldom seen in the world of the living, but many people coming back from the Death Realm claim to have seen some flying around. Not much is known about them; scientists know only that they live in the Death Realm and that they are reptiles capable of hovering, gliding and low flight. Coming across one is seen as a bad omen.

Appearance: A feathered, flying creature with two tails. Their height can very from 1m to 2m.
Strength: Not a hindrance to any experienced adventurer, but amateurs should beware.
Natural Habitat: Wilderness area.

Poison Carkarass

Appearance: A Poison Carkarass resembles the normal Carkarass, but its coloration is an iridescent blueish-purple.
Strength: Poison Carkarasses are far stronger then normal Carkarasses, so beware when engaging them in combat.
Natural Habitat: Grimy areas such as the Hydlaa Sewer.

Fire Carkarass

Appearance: Fire Carkarasses are identical in most respects to other Carkarasses, but are easily distinguished by their fiery colour.
Strength: Fire Carkarasses are as strong as Poison Carkarasses.
Natural Habitat: The Fire Carkarass lives in the Death Realm.

Clacker

Clackers are very closely related to crabs, having a hard exoskeleton, which gives them protection and makes them very robust. Their two front limbs are tipped with razor-sharp blades, which can be used to inflict serious damage on anyone who comes within range, but they are generally harmless if you keep your distance. They are named for the sound they produce with their legs. Clacker legs have been at times fashioned into crude tools, and their meat is considered edible, though an 'acquired taste'. They are one of the few omnivorous insects.

Appearance: An insect-like creature resembling an over-sized hermit crab.
Strength: Fairly stupid and not a serious threat to the experienced.
Natural Habitat: The arena has a fairly large population of these, but mainy can be found in the sewers and dungeons throughout Yliakum. Clackers are sometimes hunted for their meat, which is used to prepare many flavourful dishes.

Jade Clacker

Unlike common Clackers, Jade Clackers are a brilliant, deep green shade. Because of their coloring, they often blend in with grass and flora, and are rarely seen.

Appearance: Physically, they look just like Clackers, save for their green colouring.
Strength: Fairly stupid and but a more serious threat then the common clacker.
Natural Habitat: Jade clackers are the rarest of clackers. Still, they can be found in the arena, sewers, and well camouflaged in the wilderness.

Thunder Clacker

Appearance: Physically, they look just like Clackers, save for their their royal blue and silvery grey colouring.
Strength: Basically, they are slightly stronger than ordinary Clackers. They can be very dangerous when they clack their thundering sound.
Natural Habitat: Thunderclackers are found mostly in the wilds, and are quite uncommon near towns.

Coamti

These giant insects are hard-shelled beasts which roam near large prey and predators with little concern. They are carnivorous and confident, protected from many dangers by their thick shells.

Appearance: A giant insect with a thick blue shell.
Strength: Not very strong but can surprise the unwary by their resistance to damage.
Natural Habitat: Dark damp, wilderness area or caves. The coamti doesn't a have major location.

Mudobber Coamti

Appearance: A giant insect with a thick blue shell.
Strength: Larger and tougher then its common cousin.
Natural Habitat: Dark damp, wilderness area or caves. The Mudobber Coamti doesn't a have major location.

Consumer

Consumers are rarely seen and little is known of them. Only in recent years have consumers been spotted in any numbers, and scientists speculate that they arrived via the great pits into which the dead are thrown. They will eat anything that fits into their large, round mouth, and some people claim that consumers have the ability to "upgrade" themselves from what they eat. For example, if they eat intelligent creatures, they will themselves become more intelligent. It is rumoured that the only things consumers cannot digest are certain types of magical weapons and armour, although this information has never been confirmed.

Appearance: A being with a large, slater-like body and a massive maw of needle-like teeth. They are about 5 meters long. It has four front claws, and a series of small legs.
Strength: Although Consumers have no eyes, they possess the uncanny ability to find prey using some strange sensory organs unknown to the peoples of Yliakum.
Natural Habitat: Consumers are rare, but can be found in the Dome wilds. As they are light-sensitive, they often prefer spots where they can hide in shade and shadow.

Imago Consumer

Appearance: A being with a large, green slater-like body and a massive maw of needle-like teeth. It has four front claws, and a series of small legs.
Strength: A fairly tough opponent.
Natural Habitat: Consumers are rare, but can be found in the Dome wilds. As they are light-sensitive, they often prefer spots where they can hide in shade and shadow.

Neoten Consumer

Appearance: A being with a large, fire-red slater-like body and a massive maw of needle-like teeth. It has four front claws, and a series of small legs.
Strength: The strongest variety of consumer. They are able to use magic as well as give strong hits that can overwhelm even the seasoned warriors.
Natural Habitat: Consumers are rare, but can be found in the Dome wilds. As they are light-sensitive, they often prefer spots where they can hide in shade and shadow.

Appearance: A short, humanoid creature with a thick rock-like exoskeleton. They have very large, powerful claws and the ability to withstand the Crystal's radiation better than any other race. They are usually coloured brown and/or grey.
Strength: Their vulnerability has not been documented to this date, but it has been estimated that these creatures are hard to kill with conventional weapons due to their rocky exterior. Blunt weapons such as clubs and maces are thought to be more effective.
Natural Habitat: They have been observed through observatory telescopes as living on the Azure Sun itself. Recently however, small villages of derghir have been discovered in remote places on the Dome level.

Gawerts

The only insectoid semi-intelligent species. They live in tree colonies, and are capable of simple language.

Appearance: Similar to dwarves in size. They have a large abdomen, four thin arms and four wings. Usually green in colour.
Strength: Scavenger.
Natural Habitat: Native to the Barn but will fly to the Dome if food is scarce.

Gobbles

Gobbles are unpleasant creatures living in Hydlaa's sewers and probably other dark places. They are semi-intelligent and display a certain amount of cunning. It is said among scientists that they can even speak to each other. Their long limbs allow them to run quickly, either to fight or flee.

Appearance: A short, humanoid creature with mottled skin and a nasty disposition, these beings can be dangerous to the young and inexperienced. Though short, they have a muscled physique, and both their hands and feet have opposable thumbs to aid with climbing. Although they have limited intelligence, it is believed that one might communicate with them if one speaks their native tongue.
Strength: They are strong enough to tear chunks of flesh and meat from their victims, often in the eating frenzy that earned them their name.
Natural Habitat: Individually, they aren't that threatening to large prey and seasoned warriors, so they tend to hide out in unexpected locations, sometimes even improvising ambushes for unexpected passersby.

Eagle Gobbles

Eagle Gobbles, members of the 'Eagle' Clan of Gobbles, are identical in build to the common gobble, but adorn themselves with tattoos and, sometimes, jewellery. This body decoration is indicative of their fairly high degree of intelligence.

Appearance: Similar to the common gobble, Eagle Gobbles can be distinguished by their distinctive red tattoos on their blue skin and tendency to wear jewellery.
Strength: They are strong enough to tear chunks of flesh and meat from their victims, often in the eating frenzy that earned them their name.
Natural Habitat: Eagle Gobbles are found in the wild areas of Yliakum.

Serpent Gobbles

Serpent Gobbles are members of the 'Serpent' Clan of Gobbles. It is believed that their custom of wearing more jewellery than other Gobbles is to signify their higher degree of intelligence.

Appearance: They are identical in physiognomy to the common Gobble, but with striking orange skin, the occasional tattoo and an abundance of jewellery.
Strength: They are strong enough to tear chunks of flesh and meat from their victims, often in the eating frenzy that earned them their name.
Natural Habitat: Serpent Gobbles can be found in all wild areas.

Gorweal

A carnivorous species with both animal and plant characteristics. Starts as a seed-like egg and adapts to local flora, taking its shape. Protects its 'camouflage' and can cultivate it. Its sense of smell and ability to detect vibration make stealth impossible, even if it can be picked out of the foliage.

Adult Gorweal

Appearance: A mature Gorweal of a dark purple color.
Strength: They are tough and can sense vibration through the ground, so cannot be taken by surprise.
Natural Habitat: Isolated wilderness areas.

Elder Gorweal

Appearance: An Elder Gorweal of Black and grey color.
Strength: This elder Gorweal is fully grown and toughened over time. It is so at ease in its surroundings that it might be better to avoid confronting it.
Natural Habitat: Isolated wilderness areas.

Sapling Gorweal

Appearance: A Sapling Gorweal of a pale green and brown color.
Strength: This Gorweal is still young but already learning to blend into the surrounding plants.
Natural Habitat: Isolated wilderness areas.

Grendol

Most Grendol are of a malignant nature, although there are rumours about the existence of an intelligent, neutral being resembling a Grendol existing somewhere in one of the nether realms.

Appearance: A foul beast that reeks of death
Strength: Although it is not very intelligent, it has very heavy limbs which can easily inflict serious damage to most unskilled fighters.
Natural Habitat: This abomination dwells in dungeons and dark places, preying upon the unwary.

Toxic Grendol

While most people go to the nether regions to find a smarter version of the Grendol, they would be surprised to learn it is right in their own backyard. Although not as smart as rumored, the Toxic Grendol is in fact a smarter version of the Grendol.

Appearance: A giant creature with veins of lava and toxic liquids.
Strength: The Toxic Grendol appears to be an advanced apprentice in magic use, unlike its cousin, while also appearing to be strong, tough and agile with advanced fighting abilities.
Natural Habitat: Like its cousin, the Toxic Grendol dwells in dungeons and dark damp places.

Lavvar

Large semi-intelligent mammal, quadrupedal but often rear up to height of about 1.2m. The Lavvar rely on a superior sense of smell rather than sight. Name comes from their habitat by volcanoes and lava pools. Carnivorous, tribal and aggressive, the Lavvar often herd wild Pterosaur.

Appearance: A huge creature whose skin seems to be formed of hardened lava. The faintly glowing eye sockets are empty holes that seems to hold only fire.
Strength: One of the strongest beasts, the Lavvar has a terrifying strength.
Natural Habitat: Volcanoes and deep lava pools.

Rat

The most common vile creature in Yliakum, rats have become a pest in the large towns. They proliferate where food is freely available, and always seem able to find some way to get it. They will eat the rotting corpses in sewers as well as the fresh meat in someone's cupboard. They have been known to attack people if they got too close, however they are generally so inoffensive that kids often tease them just for fun.

One-Eyed Rat

Appearance: One-Eyed Rats are quite large and covered with brownish fur. They have one eye and a skinny tail. They use their sharp teeth to attack. While a One-Eyed Rat's bite can be quite painful, it does not inflict too much damage.
Strength: Because they are quite easy to defeat, fighting them is a good way for the weaker adventurer to gain experience.
Natural Habitat: Rats can be found in the sewers of Hydlaa or in the warehouse district of Ojaveda.

Diseased Rat

Appearance: A rat with scabbed skin and matted, patchy fur. They gives off a horrible smell of sickness and the sewers.
Strength: Thought not a serious threat to many people, they carry nasty illnesses.
Natural Habitat: Grimy areas such as the Hydlaa Sewer.

Wrathrat

Wrathrats are very much like common rats in shape, however, their appearance is dramatically different. Only half of the head has flesh, the rest is skeleton; their bodies are skinned, bare muscles are open to the air and held together in places with coarse stitchings. It is unsure whether they feed or not since they do not seem to be alive in the natural sense. Some speculate that a sorcerer cast a spell upon some rats, dooming them never to rest in peace.

Appearance: Wrathrats have the same physical shape as common rats, but their fur is of a bloody red and their skin adheres to their skeleton by only a few stitches here and there.
Strength: Wrathrats are far more powerful than common rats; their big claws can inflict serious damage to the careless or unskilled fighter.
Natural Habitat: Wrathrats live primarily in the Death Realm but can also be found in dark places like the Hydlaa Sewers.

Riverling

A reptilian species that thrives in damp caves. About 2m tall when upright, but almost always hunched to fit under low ceilings.

Strength: Tougher than its common cousin due to its armor and stronger spells.
Natural Habitat: Lakes, lakefronts and damp caves.

Tefusang

A bizarre reptile with some mammalian features, possibly twisted by magic early in its development. Occupies underground areas and valleys on the top three levels. Carnivorous, and prefer rivnaks and their riders. Hides are used in clothing and armour, teeth and claws are used in alchemy, and lard is used in cooking.

Appearance: A large nasty beast with leathery skin, horned appendages and two large limbs hanging from the torso.
Strength: The potential strength of this breed varies. The wise adventurer should be wary when approaching one of these creatures.
Natural Habitat: Tefusangs are seen throughout Yliakum. Although fairly common, they tend to avoid highly populated places, preferring areas which are rarely accessed. There is also a colony which has been brought to the arena for anyone who would like to match their skill against one.

Tefusangling

Appearance: A smaller cousin of the Tefusang. Its pointed teeth suggest it prefers meat.
Strength: Because they are not very hard to defeat, fighting them is a good way for the weaker adventurer to gain experience.
Natural Habitat: Tefusanglings are seen throughout Yliakum. Although fairly common, they tend to avoid highly populated places, preferring areas which are rarely accessed. There is also a colony which has been brought to the arena for anyone who would like to match their skill against one.

Strength: The toughest of the Tefusang subspecies, this beast can provide a challenge.
Natural Habitat: Marfusang are seen throughout Yliakum. Although fairly common, they tend to avoid highly populated places, preferring areas which are rarely accessed.

Tloke

A large, light-green insect. Similar to clackers in size, but docile and herbivorous, eating mostly grass. Some nobles use tlokes for adornment and low-maintenance grazing of their lawns. Their saddleback shape is cause for breeding tlokes for size, in the hopes they can grow large enough to ride. Many people consider the tloke a 'lucky animal' and will not kill it, despite the use of its parts in alchemy.

Tloke Drone

Possessing extraordinary strength for its size, the Drones perform the menial tasks in the hive.

Appearance: Greenish wings, an orange thorax and black legs.

Tloke Warrior

Working as one, the Warriors protect their queen against potential hostiles.

Appearance: Orange wings and thorax, black legs.

One can fetch a very nice fee for the hearts of these monsters.

Appearance: A creature resembling a spider but with a human face. A fully-grown trepor is about 1.5m high, 1m wide and 1m long. They have four feelers on their raised backs. Most of their body is covered with a very hard layer of toughened scales.
Strength: Trepors are difficult, but not impossible to slay. They can be quite dangerous in small packs and lethal if their colony is threatened. They are able to attack in complete darkness because of their good vision and feelers. A trepor attacks by biting and clawing. It is rumoured that some are able to use magic.
Natural Habitat: They inhabit plains, forests and caves. Trepors dwell in the wilds for the most part, although a colony was established in the Hydlaa Arena for training purposes.

Only the bravest or most foolhardy of adventurers will attempt to kill ulbernauts. Their parts are valued for many things; their hides and claws are highly valuable to fur and animal parts traders, while their hearts are prized by magicians and priests as a component of ritual magic. Most parts are also used in alchemy.
